MobileMe: Not as bad as people say…

Since its launch on July 11, 2008, the “new” online service from Apple had a bumpy start and reviews have been negative overall… even Walt Mossberg says that “Apple’s MobileMe Is Far Too Flawed To Be Reliable”. The problems that have plagued the service have not helped… and Apple also changed the tone of their messaging from “Exchange for the rest of us” to “The simple way to keep everything in sync”. But overall, the re-branding of .Mac and new web interface to the online service that Apple Inc charges $99 per year in the US (pricing does vary around the world, and I don’t think it will be lower) has all the base components that make it already worth for me, and that could become great with a few little “tweaks”.

My private web site is (finally) back online

It took me almost a year, but my private web site is finally back online. I’ve slimmed it down compared to previously, and moved from a complete Zope site to a set of web pages created with RapidWeaver. You’ll find my previously available photo galleries. Next step, unify the look and feel with my blog… hopefully I’ll be able to do that within the next year or so :-)

Slow progress with the update of my web site…

It is taking a lot longer than what I initially expected, but I finally had the chance to make a big first step toward the redesign of my web site. As you can see, the look of my blog has somewhat changed compared to the previous slightly tweaked standard template.

A little background about the new look. It was created using CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X3 on my Macbook Pro… yes, that’s right, CDGS on Mac OS. I wanted to put Parallels to the test and wanted to use my favorite graphics suite to create the web page layout (with CorelDRAW X3) and the slicing on the images (with Corel PHOTO-PAINT X3). The CSS was then hand-written using Textmate which replaced HomeSite as my web-editor of choice since I moved to the Mac.

First step to the update of my web site

I finally had a chance to start updating my web site. The first (mini-)step has been to slightly adapt the look&feel of this blog. I’ve decided to undergo a major overhaul of my private web site. I am in the process of creating the new look & feel for the web site using XHTML and CSS. Really fun to finally get back into it.

To get started, I’ve slightly updated the template that came with my Weblog software (Blojsom that comes with Mac OS X 10.4 Server). All instructions on how to customize this this weblog engine can be fund on Brendan Berg’s Weblog. Once my web site has been update with the new style, I will give a final update to my blog.

More to come (hopefully) soon. Stay tuned :)
